Delaware County restaurant inspections

Comments on food-safety inspections conducted last week by the Delaware County Health Department of establishments with liquor licenses and only those that had violations, which this week was six of eight:

• Can opener is not clean to sight and touch.

• In-use utensils in disrepair (Chipped plastic spatulas).

• Test kits or other devices are expired.

• Base coving on the floor and wall junctures in the dish washing area are in disrepair.

• Knife was stored on the cutting board.

• A food thermometer is not available.

• Anchovies stored in the walk in cooler is/are spoiled.

• Bacon bits stored in the cold holding unit is/are spoiled.

• Handwashing sink blocked by ketchup bottles.

• Raw vegetables stored below raw beef.

• Date marking is not on all food items.

• Rodent droppings observed in the storage area.

• Food stored in an unapproved location on the floor of the walk in refrigeration units.

• In-use wiping cloths are not stored properly.

• Soil residue present on air vents in the refrigeration units.

• Food storage containers are not labeled.

• Food items in bain marie are not marked with a use-by date.

• Observed exterior door open allows access for pests.

• Observed potatoes stored directly on the floor.

• Observed food employee is working in food prep area of kitchen, not wearing a hair restraint.

• Food employee is not minimizing bare hand contact with foods that are not in a ready to eat form.

• Handwashing sink blocked by paper towels and signage.

• A sign or poster that notifies food employees to wash their hands is not provided at all handwashing sinks used by food employees.

• Soda guns are not clean to sight and touch.

• Date marking is not on all food items.

• A thermometer is not provided in the all refrigeration units.

• Test kits or other devices are not available to the employees to measure sanitizing solution concentration.

• Soil residue present on air vents in the walk-in refrigeration unit.

• The unisex restroom lacks a covered receptacle for disposal of feminine hygiene products.

Most of the violations are handled on the spot and a few require follow-up visits.

Clean bill of health: Galway’s Pub, 598 Long Lane, Upper Darby, and Mod India Restaurant-Comfort Inn & Suites, 1110 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, each had no violations in follow-up inspections.

All the inspections this week were routine or follow-ups.

No inspections were reported through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture website by the Delaware County townships that don’t rely on the county health department.
